Ok well this is going to be my last blog guys. I am sorry that i cant keep telling my views and some of my fishing stories. I could spend all day talking about old fishing stories but we ran out of time. So in the end, fishing, if you have never been just try it. There are all kinds of different types you can do all i am asking is to go out and and at least try it. If you dont like it dont worry there are alot of other different things you can do in the world. Anyways fishing can be a good way to bond with people, its something you can do as a family, you can do it to relax and take your mind of things, also you can use it as an ice breaker lol. All i am saying everyone has there own views and looks on things but you can not say anthing unless you have tried it for yourself. Then and only then you can have a say in it ok guys. Also if your not good at it dont worry, alot of good things take time. Well it has been fun talking and all but i got to get going, im going to go get me some snook tonight i think im going to head to the keys for another little adventure. By the way you can only keep a snook if you have a permit you know its like when you have to get your lobster permit if you want to keep lobster. In the end fishing is always going to be there and a bad day of fishing is always better than a good day at work.

SHARKS

Filed Under Uncategorized | 4 Comments

Ok for everyone out there that is scared of getting in the water because of sharks or people that just wont even try spearing because of sharks or peolpe telling me that the most shark attacks happen when you wade in the water, well im here to chage your mind. Well yes spearing attracts sharks because of the blood and the noise of the fish struggling but  how many times do you hear soming getting bit by a shark, im not saying it does not happen but it does not happen often the media just blows it out of porpotion. Also people get attacked because your not paying attention or doing something stupid or the shark mistakes you for something else. There not out in the water just looking for people. Also what i mean by not paying attention is when your wadeing in the water just keep an eye out for them, i have been wading many times and i have seen many sharks but there more scared of you and if they approach you it is because of curousity and just take your rod tip and give them a tap and they will swim away trust me i have done it plenty of times. Also what i mean by people being stupid is because when i go spearing some of my boddys shoot somthing and keep it around there waist so the can keep loking around but look i dont recommend that if its your first time, and if it is your first time just leave the fish on the end of your spear and if i mean if you do get bothered by a shark just give up the fish and you wont get hurt. All i am trying to say is be aware and dont be stupid thats all and you will be fine, just be smart and make smart decisions.

Story

Well guys all i do is fish when i am not at work or in school and i have so many stories but i just got a new one of you guys. I went fishing just last week in the keys where i went to my secret wading spot, its not that secret anymore i think because i just took one of my buddies there when i went and i live in west palm now so my friend could be taking his friends there then his friend takes his friend and so on while im not there. So then people know the spot and then everyone knows so all i am saying is if you got a real good spot make sure you take someone that wont open there mouth about the spot or just go alone. Well i got to take someone with me when we go fishing because it is just more fun that way and that is an extra person knowing you caught something and your not just lying about it. You got to know, all fisherman are lengends in there own minds. Ok well anyways on to my story. I was wading in my spot and fish were everywhere but they would not bite any of my lures for the longest time so i started to get fustrated until I saw a couple of tarpon roll so i changed my lure a quick as i can to a white DOA. shrimp i had a pack of three. Anyways, first cast i hook up on a tarpon  it flies right out of the water like 100 feet in front of me then all of the sudden pop there he goes lost him. Then i rush to put another one on and i look in my tackle box and guess what i found NOTHING.  In all of my excitment i dropped my pack of three DOA. shrimp in the water somewhere. I then tried the rest of the lures that i had on in the beginning which was not working and guess what they wernt working yet again so i just called it a day. At least i jumped one right.

Well like i said in my other blog live bait for deep sea and lures for back country. You can use both out in the deep sea but i tend to use live bait most of the time. There is alot of room to cover in the ocean so why not bring the fish to u using live bait. So whenever i go deep sea fishing i use live bait, i get a bite alot faster that way. When i am out in the ocean it does not matter what i am doing out there just that i am using live bait. For ex. when i am trolling i put out live ballyhoo or flying fish instead of plactics or when i am bottom fishing i catch a nice size yellow tail with a piece of shrip, than i take the yellow tail and put him on the bottom for a grouper but sometimes i get a shark or just the lips of the fish becauce a shark eats it. That always pisses me off. Also if you want to catch a shark just put something bloodly out in the water so using a lure would be hard unless you see the shark already. Also, when i go for king fish i free line a live blue runner on a stringer rig. So when ever i am out in the ocean you can always count on me using live bait. Dont get me wrong you can use lures to but you have to find the fish first or bring them to you first. Anyways that is my view on live bait. (live bait-deep sea, lures-back country)

Lures

Sorry guys that i have not been writing but i alrady picked my topic for my paper which is Spearing vs. Rod and Reel. Its ok though i got all kinds of more stuff to write about so i wont leave you hanging. Well i like to use both lures and live bait but when i am back country fishing all i use is lures and when i go deep sea fishing i use live bait but thats gong to be in a different blog, for right now its about lures. I dont konw why but thats just me. Starting with back country i like to use lures just because i can make a lot more casts and not worry about my bait falling off. Also, i just love to work a lure because you have to mimic bait and its pretty fun you dont get board unlike bait your just sitting there waiting for a bite. Also there is all kinds of lures like when i go for tarpon i always put on a glow in the dark DOA. shrimp works all the time or if i want to see i lot of action i put on a top water plug. Well anyways i just love using lures just because i can cast as many times as i want and when i go back country we usually sight fish so you have to be ready all the time and if you were using live bait and if your not ready in time there goes the fish but if you use a lure just keep casting.

Factory Trawlers Should Not Be Banned… Before I read about this I thought we should ban factory trawlers because there taking away all the fish but when I read what Paul MacGregor an executive director of the At-Sea Processors Association had to say about this topic it made me change my mind. By the way, Paul thinks trawlers should not be banned and he said, “the factory trawlers in the North Pacific have an excellent environmental record. Furthermore, there is no connection between a ship’s size and its capability to fish with adequate conservation practices—and that smaller ships are just as capable as larger ones of exploiting a fishery to the point of collapse.” This made me change my mind because it is true smaller ships can do just the same amount of damage a big vessel can, if you over fish in a big boat or small over fishing is over fishing. A fact that backed up his arguement was, “Most U.S. fishing vessels longer than 165 feet fish in the North Pacific. A September 1997 National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) report on the status of U.S. fish stocks reports found that of the 63 fish species identified in the North Pacific, none are overfished.” So that cahnged my mind a bit about trawlers i am still a bit iffy on the issue but after reading this i cant really say to ban trawlers because in this article its all postive about the issue maybe if i read someones other side on this topic a could actully make a choice but for now i just have to say not to ban trawlers.

Cali.

Hey guys been a while but im back I was just out in Cali. visiting my brother we went sky diving and then we out spear fishing. That was one of the coolest trips ever. I was scared out of my mind because there are great whites out there but we had a blast. The water over there is so so cold i was wearing a wet suit and i was still freezing. The water out there was really cool we went spearing in a kelp bed but we didint shoot anything i didnt see anything big enough but i saw a seel. It was still a good time. Whats good about spearing out there is you can go right off the beach that what my brother said i dont know all of Cali. rules and regulations but I trusted my brother. It is a real different experience so if you are ever in Cali. you should try it out. When i was out there, there wasn’t many people that fished in that area they were mainly surfers. People in that area really don’t care much about fishing they just love the waves and there was alot of them. Spearing in Cali. is fun in all but i like it in the keys better. That is just because i  am so used to the keys but if i had more time I would probably would like it over there as much as i like it here. I was a little bit nervous of the kelp beds because when i dove down i always thought i was going to get wraped up in them. I had a knife on my legs so i was ok. Spearing out there was fun even though we did not shoot anything sorry guys maybe next time but if your ever in Cali. you should check it out.

Well to start off I love both types of fishing but i choose to rather spear fish if someone were to ask me. I just love it because you dont get bored because your out in the ocean swimming looking around for your dinner having a good time looking at all the fish and coral and stuff instead of just sitting on the boat waiting to get a bite. Dont get me wrong there is a time for rod and reel like when you are sport fishing like catch and relese for tarpon or bonefish and stuff like that, but if you want something to eat jump in the water and go after it yourself. If you like working out i would recommend spearing you have to learn to control your breathing and swimming is a great excerise. Also i love to eat hog fish  it tastes so good when you catch it yourself and it is much easier to spear than to catch on rod and reel. If you never been spearing you should check it out and you will change your mind about using a rod all of the time. Just be careful of sharks you shouldn’ t be afarid of them just know there in the water so just keep an eye out or always swim with a buddy that you can beat back to the boat just kidding sharks is something not to worry about just be smart. One thing you should worry about is shallow water black out now that sucks, know your limits, all talk about shallow water black out in my next blog.

I read this persons blog about the Top 5 Spots for Fly fishing…… Well those are some good spots but if you want some real excitement come down to the florida keys for some Tarpon on fly or even some reds on fly. But if you do come, go for the tarpon they put on a great show. I’m telling you if you ever see a tarpon on fly you will go nuts then you will be seeing yourself come to the keys more often. Watching them jump out of the water is so amazing and these fish get huge so witnessing a 100 pound tarpon jump out of the water theres nothing better. Wait a mintue catching one on fly is better because you get to fight the fish and you still get to witness it so you got to come down to the florida keys to experience this. So either put the keys on your list as number one or at least in the top five. The five on there right now are good real good dont get me wrong those are some beautiful places to go to but to catch trout and salmon and stuff all i am saying is that the florida keys should be on your list also. If i would have to pick my favorites it would have to be The florida keys, then would come Alaska, then your top five. Like I said just put the florida keys in your list then you would have a good top five for the best spots for fly fishing.

I lived in the Florida keys all my life until I came to west plam to go to college. Basically I grew up on an island surrounded by salt water and there are some areas of fresh water such as lakes and ponds. All we do in the keys is play sports, party and ofcorse fish. There is not much else to do down there. I have done it all for from trolling for large dolphin, spearing hogfish, catching tarpon on fly in the flats, and even catching my fair share of bass. Saltwater fishing to me is better then fresh water fishing for ex. you can do alot more in salt than fresh water, there is trolling, spearing, bottom fishing, kite fishing, drift fishing, flats fishing, and that is only the beginning of the list. When you go fresh water fishing all there really is, fishing in a lake from land or boat, fly fishing in rivers, catching catfish with you hands, bow fishing and some other stuff. Don’t get me wrong I love to fish both Fresh and Salt but I prefur slat water. Back in the keys we argure over this topic bunch of times and both sides put up a good fight. But come on there more types of fish in salt water and way more different types of fishing you can do. The fight of the fish is alot stronger and way more exciting too. You also have to plan on what type of fish you go for cause you do different things for different types of fish. When you are fishing in fresh water you can throw in what ever an expect a bite, it gets pretty boring after a while. When you go fishing in salt water you have to use your mind alot more for ex. when you go out you need to konw where the fish are at, what are they feeding on, checking tides to know when your going to get the best bite and alot of other factors. While on the other hand you dont have to use your mind for fresh water, you can if you want to but you really don’t have to they always bite. I guess thats why i prefur salt water cause you never know when there going to bite.
