Why They Should Have the Right to Choose
Filed Under Uncategorized | 1 Comment
“In the realm of thought every person performs innumerable abortions each minute of the working day,” so why should women be given such grief about whether or not they decide to abort a child? For years our community has fought over this heart-wrenching topic to no avail, only to further confuse the issues that abortion presents. When we look at what issues abortion really presents us with, we should focus mainly on whom the decision is affecting, not what is happening to the fetus in question. Some argue that having an abortion is the irresponsible thing to do; however, having an abortion prevents teen mothers from having to force other citizens to pay to support their child. The choice to end a pregnancy also allows teens to stay in school and further their education. Having an abortion also helps focus others on their daily tasks instead of constantly making them worry over the mother’s health. In some cases, women get raped and are not able to take a stop pregnancy pill, which puts them in a bad situation. Thus, I maintain that all women should have the right to obtain an abortion under any circumstance. As an American citizen, I should not have to pay to support someone else’s child. Yet, this is the exact situation that we are placed in when a teen mother does not have an abortion, places her child up for adoption, and it is not adopted. The mother no longer has to take on the finical burden of a child by herself; she now gets to split the cost of raising a child with the millions of people who pay their in this country. But if the mother had an abortion when she could have, the tax paying public no longer would have to pay a continuous tax that would add up in the long run, on one individual being raised in an orphanage. We would only face a one-time expense and that would be the end of it. In the long run, a one-time expenditure would be less expensive for the public than a sustained yearly payment over eighteen years of the child’s life. Hitherto, people still believe that a being they never met is more worthy of my hard earned paycheck than my own children. Furthermore, most teen parents are forced to drop out of school because of the demands of being a parent. But choosing to have an abortion can help keep teens in school where they can learn to better their lives. While teens are in school, they are taught valuable life lessons that prepare them for children. These lessons may not only be how to socially interact with their peers, but also the responsibility of raising a child and how to manage a family finically. By removing a potential mother from such lessons hinders her ability to handle children, not only in the present, but also in the future if she does have an abortion. The main focus of schools is to continually educate children, and teach them the practical skills that they will need to survive in the real world. If a school age girl gets pregnant and has to have her child she will miss at least one month of school. The one-month of school that she missed could have been vital to her success in her post-secondary life, and she would have missed out on her opportunity to better her life. The potential mother could have found a calling in school and gone to college and become a professional. But, she must stay at home with her child and not be able to contribute to the economy. Not only do teens that fail to have an abortion hinder themselves and their families, but they cause distractions for those around them as well. Only a couple of weeks ago, I witnessed events that would tragically change one of my classmate’s lives, and severally affected me. On a Monday morning, my psychology class prepared to take a test, and one of my female classmates on the other side of the room began to cry in pain. After several minutes, I remembered that she was eight months pregnant and almost due to deliver. Her friends got the teacher’s attention and had him call the office and the paramedics. She was loaded on a gurney and wheeled out of the classroom if front of us, as we continued to study for our test. She came back to class, a couple of days later, still pregnant. I became angry because on that day I no longer had enough time to finish my test because of her distraction in the class and yet she still had no child to show for it. Evidently, she had created a distraction large enough to influence my performance on a test because her parents wouldn’t let her have an abortion. Women should not have to have a baby if that child is not wanted. Most women that seek out an abortion look for one because it is their last resort. Whether the child is a product of incest, a rape, or just poor planning in the heat of the moment, no woman should have to live a lifetime of regret for one night of an unplanned event. Most pro-life activists argue that women who are raped receive a stop pregnancy pill, but what about the women who were too afraid to go to the police. Should they have to suffer because a man could not control his primitive needs? Clearly, allowing women to have abortions is the right thing, because the hurdles that children create are too vast for most teenagers to overcome. Most single teens have to give their children up for adoption and allow others to pay for their mistakes through taxes. Moreover, the mothers that are still in school when they get pregnant are punished because they are forced to give up their education, and the chance of a better life, for an infant. The effects of teens walking around schools pregnant cause distractions that most high school students cannot psychological deal with at their age. Additionally, women that are forced into having sex, or just aren’t good planners should not be punished for what has happened to them. It makes one ask – if it helps educate the young, if it helps our struggling economy, and it helps others around the mothers why shouldn’t women be able to obtain an abortion without a second thought?

Addressing Comments

Understandably there are many sides to the topic of ending a child’s, infant’s, or embryo’s life, depending on how you view the subject. This subject is very touchy and can lead to various levels of disagreement. Some comments have led me to want to address them in this post.
About how everyone that is for abortion has been born…of course we’ve been born because its not about wanting to kill anything. For me it’s about not wanting to have to pay taxes to support a child that’s parents knew they could not support a child decided to have one anyway. But I have no problem at all if the child comes into the world with an adoption family waiting in the wings so I do not have to pay the taxes to support it.
Now this also might sound a little bit selfish about not wanting to support a human being in need, but if the parents are selfish enough to not want to help us out by not making us pay for their child aren’t I allowed to have a similar thought on the opposite end of the spectrum. There really is no sound reason to have children when you have not got the money to support them yourselves or if you do not have a private financial backer so you do not have to borrow the money from the American public who owes you nothing.
Hopefully this clarified some of the points that were questioned in some of my other blog posts.

The Suffering
Filed Under Uncategorized | 2 Comments
Who really suffers when one undergoes an abortion. With all the counseling and other measures that the mother must go through to have an abortion the obvious answer would be the mother. However, I think that the willing father is the party that suffers the most from the decision to end the life of an unborn child. He contributed, to say the least, to the creation of the fetus and he should have a say in what the mother does to his child. Like if the child were born he would have to pay child support reguardless of how he flet and the mother would benefit. Mostly because women are sadistic and would uses the monwy for themsevles instead of the baby. So shouldn’t a father’s decision on having the child count for anything. And even worse as I pointed out earlier. The worse end of the spectrum is the father that did not want the child and now has to pay to support a child that his money is not even being used on like it is supposed to. A man works hard for his money so I do not see why he should ne forced to pay a woman to take care of her own child. And if an agreement can not be reached shouldn’t the child not be brought into the world. This can be attributed to the lack of feeling that people feel toward each other in the heat of arguements that mostly end badly for every one.

Accidents Happen

Now I know that its incredibly unthinkable that one’s parents wouldn’t love them because of a “mistake”. But it happens and it is sad that it happens. But we can not dwell on how it effects them because the truth is that they were born, hopefully healthy, and are ,hopefully, still living. But what about the children that are not so lucky to be born to parents that are willing to live with their mistakes. They are the purpose of this post. The mistakes that were erased from history. When compared to the millions that died in concentration camps in the 1940’s, these aborted children are rarely ever put in the same category. But the fact remains that we actually do not know what these children would have gown up to be and what they could have accomplished. But also we must consider the what that if God had planned on them being something other than an aborted child then they would still be alive today. All that people say about how horrible it is that these children can not experience a life where a parent loves them unconditionally are completely mistaken. If their original parent can not see the good in them to begin with why should anyone expect that someone that is completely unattached to the situation could come in and pick up the pieces like the child just belongs to them. It is complete bull that this situation is predicted as a possible outcome to a “tragedy” that can be avoided when we all know is the child was a mistake and that child should have been allowed to die instead of having to undergo the torture of having to live as a mistake.

Abortion

Always a taboo topic in everyday conversations abortion is a part of everyday life in America. Churches post signs on their front lots in attempts to persuade passersby that abortion is murder and should be avoided at all costs. The news is always running stories on abortion clinics that get bombed, and rallies that are held in support and against abortions. Politicians are always making promises about what they can do to curb the number of abortions in America every year. Yet, we as a nation are incapable of having an everyday conversation about the topic without being concerned with whose listening.
We have almost turned into the public of fear from the novel 1984. We have to look over our shoulders twenty-four seven to insure that we are not going to offend someone that just might happen to be in the area. And if we do just happen to offend some random person that we have never meet before then we might as well just drop dead, because of the embarrassment that is sure to follow.
Even worse the feeling of offend someone that you know and not knowing that what you said would offend them. It might just be telling a joke or maybe, just maybe, speaking of our country’s favorite taboo topic, abortion. Because our country is so shy about the topic we would never be able to tell if our own mother is pro life or pro choice.
Friends must always be on watch they say to other friends because not every is all that forth coming with information until they become offended.

Should Age Matter?
Filed Under Uncategorized | 2 Comments
Legally we are incapable of making decisions until we are eighteen. This means medical decisions as well. Therefore, young women that are under the age of eighteen must first obtain permission from their parents to get an abortion. But, doesn’t this lack of an ability to make a simple decision, that directly effects one’s pursuit of happiness, violate the morale code on which our country was founded on?If, hypothetically, an underage girl gets pregnant and wants an abortion so she can complete school but first needs the permission of her parents. However, her parents are very conservative and will not allow her to undergo the procedure. Now she has a child instead of a high school education. It isn’t fair for a student to have to give up her future because her parents do not believe in abortion. It is simply ridiculous that we can allow for children to have their lives destroyed at their parent’s digression. In Florida, the age of consent is sixteen, so why shouldn’t the age to sign for an abortion be sixteen as well. It makes sense, if you are old enough to get pregnant by mistake; the state should make available every possible solution for negating the mistake if that is the road that one chooses. We must also consider that the government is undermining the authority of young women to make decisions that directly affect their lives. If they insist on treating young women like incompetent children then why make the legal age of consent younger than the legal age of maturation.

The Different Types of Contraception
Filed Under Uncategorized | 3 Comments
When talking about abortion, someone always brings up the fact that there are other methods that can be used to prevent pregnancy. This is true; so, I have decided to talk a little bit about the different types of contraception.
The basic definition of a contraceptive device is a device used in the attempt to prevent pregnancy. In the terms of this definition, there are six basic categories of contraception: abstinence, natural family planning, barrier, hormonal, withdrawal, and surgical. All of these methods help in the prevention of unwanted or unplanned pregnancy, but few can help in the prevention of getting an STD.
Abstinence is the only proven method of 100% effectiveness in preventing both STD’s and pregnancy. This is simply because abstinence is voluntarily refraining from any type of sexual activity until after marriage.
Natural Family Planning is using one’s own biological functions to avoid getting pregnant. This method requires women to keep track of their menstrual cycle and be abstinent for periods of seven to ten days to avoid having sex during an ovulation cycle.
The barrier method in the most commonly used method of contraception. It involves preventing the sperm from reaching the egg through either a physical barrier or a chemical one. Hormonal therapy tricks the body into believing that it is all ready pregnant which will cause it to end any other pregnancy. Withdrawal is not nearly as safe as any of the other methods and should not be used a first resort to avoid pregnancy.
Each of these methods is effective in their individual ways and should all be researched and considered when attempting to plan a pregnancy or to avoid one.

How Religion Effects Abortion
Filed Under Uncategorized | 3 Comments
Many religious groups have begun to take a stand on how women should deal with abortion. The basic goal of each of these groups is to undermine the decision making ability of the women who seek abortion. They push to have people that attack an expectant mother and kill the fetus tried for murder, and push for the mothers that drink and smoke to be put behind bars for the safety of the child. Some religious leaders do accept some cases when they feel abortion should be allowed. Such as in cases of incest, rape, and when the health of the mother are at risk.
Furthermore, the government requires that women seeking abortions must go through counseling before the procedure. This can be considered a governmental attack on abortion as it assumes that women do not give abortion serious thought before they choose it as an option. During these “counseling sessions” women are fed lies about what the baby will experience and other unproved information that may persuade them to cancel their planned abortion immediately.
Abortion rights activists also run into hard spots in their arguments when they are asked if they would help finance another woman’s abortion. Most of them wouldn’t. However, if abortion is a fundamental right of women, then the government would have to ensure that every woman in the country had equal access to resources and funds to obtain an abortion. Thus, we would all have to contribute to the abortions of others through taxes.
Clearly, the government and religion should keep their opinions to themselves.

Sex Education is Good Education
Filed Under Uncategorized | 6 Comments
While doing some research on others views of Planned Parenthood, I found that some people actually believe that sex education classes are causing kids to have sex at younger ages. It claims that knowledge of the craft and its instruments is triggering sex in younger and younger children. However, it makes no claims as to how not taking sex-ed classes affects children.
This is possibly the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. The public school system of Palm Beach County has been sending me to sex education classes since I was in kindergarten. And I’m not out whoring myself around to anything that breathes. Such views must be dismissed as nothing more than illusory correlations because what about home school children that never have the chance to go to sex-ed class.
One of my friends fits such a description. She is fourteen, the eldest in her family, adopted by a sister of her mother, who died of a drug over dose, and has never once attended a class in which the message preached was “keep it in your pants;” so she doesn’t.
Now, according to this research, she should be the one that abstains until marriage. However, she hasn’t. Therefore, this ideal is nothing more than that; a hopeless goal that we as a society will never be able to reach. And it is not our fault, we are human. We all make mistakes, some more than others. So why do we, as animals, hold ourselves responsible for our basic evolutionary goals.

Where To Draw The Line
Filed Under Uncategorized | 8 Comments
As modern say humans we concern ourselves with preventing and eliminating problems. The one most controversial problem we face is undeniably a basic need of human survival on Earth, pregnancy. The thought of the intense pain of child birth, the agony of constantly being able to feed another mouth and the emotional trauma that children always put their parents through is more than enough for most young parents to quit before they get started. But where is it okay to draw the proverbial line in the sand? Is it after the woman has given birth, after she becomes pregnant, or possibly before the sperm reaches the egg? But some still argue that preventing intercourse is the only way to stop the pest of pregnancy.
The Catholic Church instills the belief that all living matter should be kept alive. But what is living? Fetuses do not have a heart beat until they are eight weeks old. So what are they before then? They are inside a human, and we know that when they continue to grow that they too will be like us. But until birth – we cannot see them as anything more than a non living being. In fact dictionary.com defines living as “in actual existence or use.” And since a fetus in not in the realm of existence until it has been born it is not a living being.
Thus choosing to end a pregnancy should be a valid option until the day that the child is actually born.
