Packed in like sardines..

I was reading about overcrowded prisons and what some people believe we should do about it. The most popular response was new constuction to make more room…I on the other hand believe in the death penalty! For years and years we have inmates serving life on top of life sentences, why are we even waisting our time? They will never get released so we should just do away with them to make room for the inmates with smaller sentences. Also it would help save the money that we the tax payers have to give up for these people to live meaningless lives inside these facilities. Another reason I think we should follow the death penalty is because these inmates spend so much time doing nothing that we take the chance of them figuring out how to break out of jail! I have watched so many programs on t.v. about inmates making weapons out of everyday household items, such as a newspaper dagger and these behaviors ultimately put the correctional officers in harms way.

Ever since I could remember I have been in and out of the courthouse. When I was young I attended court hearings alongside my family due to a pesky neighbor who claimed our German Sheppard K-9 bit her. Then as I grew older I found myself alone in the court rooms because of minor traffic violations. Spending so much time dealing with court dates and court costs, fee’s and convictions I consequently decided to study law pursuing a career as a Lawyer and to ultimately promote to a Judge. I discussed this plan with my father and he was thrilled at my decision but at the same time he had somewhat of reluctance. He brought to my attention that he feared if I became a Judge and worked, for example a rape case and I were to convict the suspect his/her family or friends may find out who I am and possibly where I reside and try to hurt me for punishing their loved one. I agree with my father, I believe that this kind of thing may actually happen to some Judges. Which brings me to my reason for writing this blog why aren’t Judges kept anonymous? I don’t believe it is necessary for anyone to know the name, or physical appearance of the Judge, a person who makes such an important decision and who holds so much power over another being’s freedom.

So a few years ago I got myself into a lot of trouble with speeding tickets, which is ultimately the reason I am attending school to study law. Recently I got into trouble again but this time it was for something different; battery on a law enforcement officer!! It all started when my fiancée and I stopped at a corner store. I went inside to use the restroom but when my fiancée went inside to purchase a few things he noticed a book bag on the floor in one of the isle’s….he picked the bag up off the floor and headed for the front counter to turn it in. In the mean time the owner of the book bag got in my fiancée’s face and yelled that he was trying to steal his bag! By the time I came out of the restroom there were a couple of cops outside with my fiancée. As soon as I saw the officers I got scared and demanded to be told about the situation, at one point I raised my hands and asked “What is going on?” and that’s when the officer felt threatened and slammed me on the floor and put me under arrest. Fast forward a few months and I am still going to court and paying all sorts of fees for this incident. I was appointed a public defender but I don’t like him much and this is why. I feel like my public defender is not really concerned with my case therefore he is not fighting for my rights and freedom. Last time I went to court he tried to get me to sign a plea bargain for 50 hours of community service and probation, I finally stood up for my self and got the state attorney to change the bargain to only 50 hours of community service and I do feel good about this I just don’t understand why some of the people that we depend on and even pay don’t really care to do their job.

I’m starting my blog on a new subject which I am studying and that is Law. First I want to write about how ridiculous it sounds to me when I hear about another inmate getting released early on good behavior or because our jails and prisons are full. For instance if some one commits a crime and they are sentenced to say 10 years in jail, and then they get let out after 4 years of good behavior. Why should they be allowed such privileges? These people are arrested for a reason and just because they comply while in the system doesn’t mean they don’t have to pay for what they did wrong. If you get a speeding ticket they don’t monitor your driving for a month and then dismiss the ticket for good driving so why do they allow this with some of the most dangerous people in our areas? Also I don’t understand why people get released from jail because of no vacancy. Everyday we have thousands maybe even millions on Death Row for long periods of time. What?! I was under the impression that death row was where you are sent while you’re awaiting the death penalty…now if the facilities are full and we have so many on death row what is wrong with speeding up the process of the death penalty and make some room for the criminals that need to serve their full sentence. Is keeping the criminals off the street too much to ask?
