Ethanol
Filed Under Uncategorized | 1 Comment
ethanol can be used as fuel, mainly as a biofuel alternative to gasoline and is widely used in cars in Brazil. Because its easy to manufactur and process and can be made from very common crops such as sugarcane and corn. it is an increasingly common alterntive to gasoline in some parts of the world and is a renewable recourse. anhydrous ethanol, which is ethanol with less than 1% of water) can be blended with gasoline in varying quantities up to pure ethanol. ethanol can also be mass produced by the fermentation of sugar.

Going green is a new trend, but going organic goes right along with it. Organic foods are made according to certain production standards, meaning they are grown without the use of conventional pesticides and artificial fertilizers, free from contamination by human or industrial waste, and processed without ionizing radiation or food additives. if livestock is involved it must be reared without the routine use of antibiotics and without the use of growth hormones and generally fed a healthy diet. In most countries, organic produce may not be genetically modified.
Organic food production is a heavily regulated industry, distinct from private gardening for instance. Currently, the European Union, the United States, Canada, Japan and many other countries require producers to obtain special certification in order to market food as organic within their borders.
Historically, organic farms have been relatively small family-run farms which is why organic food was once only available in small stores or farmers’ markets. But now is more widely available, there are even now specialty stores dedicated to soley selling organic foods.

the green party has been an active third party group since 2001. during ralph nader’s runs for presidency was`when the party first gained widespread attention. the green party has won elected office mostly at the local level, and mot of those green party winners were part of nonpartisan ballot elections. the green party emphasises environmentalism, non hierarchy participatory democracy, social justice, respect for diversity and non violence. The green party does not accept donations from corporations and the party’s platform and rhetoric critiques corporate influence and control over government, media and society at large.

Solar Energy
Filed Under Uncategorized | 1 Comment
Solar energy is the light and radiant heat from the Sun that influences Earth’s climate and weather and sustains life. Solar power is sometimes used as a synonym for solar energy or more specifically to refer to electricity generated from solar radiation. Since ancient times solar energy has been harnessed by humans using a range of technologies. Solar radiation along with secondary solar resources such as wind and wave power, hydroelectricity and biomass account for most of the available renewable energy on Earth.Solar energy technologies can provide electrical generation by heat engine or photovoltaic means; space heating and cooling in active and passive solar buildings; potable water by distillation and disinfection, daylighting, hot water, thermal energy for cooking, and high temperature process heat for industrial purposes.

The Kyoto Protocol
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
The Kyoto Protocol was created by the United Nations Framework Convention On Climate Change(UNFCCC) as an environmental treaty which is intended to achieve stabalization of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent any dangerous interferance with the climate system. The Kyoto protocol called for the reduction of four greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, sulfur hexafluoride) with a legally binding commitment. Most Nations have established designated national authorities to manage their greenhouse gas emissions, those countries include Japan, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, France, and Spain.

Many people are going green, but what exactly is a green product? Green products are common and you can find them for almost any daily activity. The ways these products are green also varys. some products are water efficient, others use non- toxic mnaterials, they are recycled from renewable recources, and some, themselves are recyclable and biodegradable, among the many other characteristics that green products carry.

Modest Warming?
Filed Under Uncategorized | 1 Comment
I was reading an article called “Greenhouse Gas Emissions Need Not Be Reduced” , in it a woman named Sallie Baliunas argues that, while there is still some damage caused by humans, most of the warming is due to natural occurrences. She goes on to explain that the problems we would face while trying to lower our greenhouse emissions would cause more “economic hardship” than some “modest warming” ever would.
I completely disagree with this article, I think that there is enough evidence in front of us to prove that global warming is real and a threat, and that it shouldn’t be taken lightly. I think that when people pose theories such as this one it only allows the rest of us to assume that we aren’t doing anything wrong. And if no one thinks their doing anything wrong then they won’t do anything proactive to fix anything, which in my opinion, could only lead to an even bigger problem.

Since global warming is such a problem we have no time to wait around for the government to figure out what to do about it. there are things you can do to help in the fight against global warming.
Here is a list of some simple things that everyone can do in order to fight against and reduce the effects of global warming:
-Replace a regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb-CFLs use 60% less energy than a regular bulb. This simple switch will save about 300 pounds of carbon dioxide a year
-Move your thermostat down 2° in winter and up 2° in summer-Almost half of the energy we use in our homes goes to heating and cooling. You could save about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year with this simple adjustment.
-Move your fridge and freezer-Placing them next to the cooker or boiler consumes much more energy than if they were standing on their own
-Choose products that come with little packaging and buy refills when you can-You will also cut down on waste production and energy use… another help against global warming.
-Buy fresh foods instead of frozen-Frozen food uses 10 times more energy to produce.
-Fly less-Air travel produces large amounts of emissions so reducing how much you fly by even one or two trips a year can reduce your emissions significantly
-Encourage the switch to renewable energy-Successfully combating global warming requires a national transition to renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and biomass. These technologies are ready to be deployed more widely but there are regulatory barriers impeding them

The causes of global warming
Filed Under Uncategorized | 2 Comments
Global warming is one of the world’s greatest threats today, even though for a while many pretended that it wasn’t really happening. Well, global warming IS happening and needs to be understood.
In order to fully understand something it’s important that you go to the root of the problem, that’s right, the cause. The causes of global warming can be split into two categories, natural causes, and causes that are man made.
Natural causes consist of things that are, as you’ve probably guessed, created by nature. One natural cause of global warming is the release of methane gas from wetlands and the arctic tundra. methane gas is a colorless, odorless gas that distributes widely across nature, is extremely deadly to humans, and is also a green house gas. green house gasses, like methane, are dangerouse to the environment because they trap heat into the earth’s atmosphere, thus raising the temperature, which causes ice caps to melt, which is BAD.
The other cause, man made, is the big one. The list of man made effects on global warming is a rather large, one but let’s narrow it down. pollution is one of the biggies in this categorie, and it comes in many shapes and sizes. burning fossils fuels is a pollutant. Fossil fuels are made of organic matter such as coal and oil. when these things are burned they give off a green house gas called cO2. Another big man made cause is population. more people means more food, and more methods of transportation. More modes of transportation translates into the release of ,once again, those dangerouse green house gasses.
thats it for now but we’ve only skimmed the surface of global warming.

Inconvenient Youth
Filed Under Uncategorized | 2 Comments
An inconvenient youth, is a group of teens inspired by Al Gore. They are crossing the nation in an attempt to get other teens to be aware of the climate change, by doing presentations at schools. I think this is such a good idea, our generation will be dealing with global warming in the long run, so for people our age to be so motivated to try to inform others about their impact on the environment is very proactive.
