Greetings, good people of Academic Blog.com !
As we have established in the previous blogs, parents are to be held responsible for what their children do and watch on the TV screen.
Easier said than done, people. I am not parent, but I am a person. A busy person. Sometimes I dont even have enough time to eat properly, garb a smoothie and go. Well parents are people too, and probably just as buys as me. Its Life People, and being busy should not stop you from having babies. Anyway, what I am getting to is parents cant and wont stand behind their child every moment while the child watches TV.
How can they? But we have firmly established before that nevertheless, parents are held responsible. Well help is here, and oddly enough many refuse to use…its like swimming to the shore right next to an iddling motor boat, get in it!!
There are a TON of technologocal advances that help the beloved parents to screen what their kids watch. Its like an cyber mommy, that takes out the bad and negative content. There are things like V-chips, that BY LAW require EVERY tv manufactred from 1996 to build one in.
Most parents dont even know it exists.
all you have to do is set a password on your TV with the remote control, and cyber mommy is “on guard”.
check it out, or refer to the manual from the set!
Talk to you all next week!

Judicial System Blown out of Proportion
Filed Under Uncategorized | 3 Comments
Hi all,
Ive stumbled upon a very well written article that brushes the side of my topic.
Although this one is not a direct hit to what Im talking about, I find it very well worded and simply understandable, considering the issues the author is dealing with.
When did the Judicial System migrated from being a branch of the United States’s Government system, set up by the founding fathers in our Constituition, to being a branch of the “Entertainment System”, created by people trying to get rich? Ouch!
As the author very well puts it, you do not turn the TV on to get a thorough snd thoughtful understanding of the court system and the given issue it is dealing with - Just the racy, sexy, thrilling news to get a fix of daily gossip/entertainment.
One can not, and should not, confuse the entertainment with a government function. People involved in these cases are not being entertained for sure. They are real people getting real judgements and real jail time.
A movie just came to mind. It is quite difficult to watch, but it is to do with criminal trial turned PUBLIC using a media outlet. Although the movie is fiction, it makes you wonder. It is about a public trial of a man who raped and killed a woman. However, instead of a regular jury of 12 his jury was all US people! After watching his defense and prosecution you would TEXT your verdict. I sincerily apologize for not being able to come up with a title of this piece, but it was stricking.
When is our media going to far? There is a fine line between a government branch and entertainment, and right now, media is like a 2-year old pushing the boundries -testing the limits, waiting to be slapped on the hand by a watchful adult.
Now would be a good time to slap!
Thank You for Reading!
Also, I would like to thank everyone ahead of time for commenting

Thoughts Out Loud

Hello Everyone Reading,
America is in a dire need for a revision of the indecency rules!
Eighty percent of all movies shown on network or cable television have sexual content according to a survey FCC has coducted. It is also known that adolescents absorb about eight hours of media daily. Therefore it is understood that about 6 hours out of the 8 have unnecessary sexuality in them. Now, I am not saying that it applies to every child, but it is a general statistic. Just a solid number to give you an idea.
What kind of an impact could it have on the future generations? All that sexual content may induce younger children to follow stereotypes projected and more over engage in sexual activity .
Today’s new trend is “Reality TV”. Primary theme of such shows is sexual attraction between the sexes. Another popular type of television programs are the soap operas. Can anyone name at least one soap opera where there is only platonic love? That is very unlikely.
Now, let’s take a look at today’s popular music.
How can parents let their minors watch MTV and VH1 ( i think that is what its called ) channels when six out of ten videos portray sexual feelings and impulses in video’s content . ( FCC survey )
The most popular genres of music in today’s culture are Hip-Hop and Rap.
Unfortunately, Hip-Hop and Rap are the exact genres that have the most simulated sexual activity in their videos and lyrics. Songs like “Shake That Moneymaker” by Ludacris, or “Candy shop” by 50 Cent don’t actually have that much “banned” words in them, but the actions implied by the words in these songs are highly sexually inclined. Nevertheless, the radio stations play them many times a day! Who should block such songs and shows from the minor’s reach?
It is easy to point fingers at parents, but how do we really solve these issues…..
I dont know….

Who carries the Burden?
Filed Under Uncategorized | 2 Comments
Hello fellow bloggers,
I though I would write a little about the solution. Not that it is possible, but a baby steps toward “better media”.
I had a few comments about parenting responsibility from other members. A couple of other blogs that I have stumbled upon had a refernce towards parental responsibility in controling what the kids watch as well. And not to say that I disagree. You are totally, 100%, absolutely, correct. Parents do carry a LARGE ( but not all ) burden of protecting, or shielding, their offspring from the evil media. ( totally dramatizing, but hey, no drama - no fun ;)) It should be a collaborative effect of all FOUR sides involved in this world-wide epidemic. 1. Parents. 2. Government ( FCC ) 3. Cable companies/TV stations ( that is a hard one) and finally, 4. The children, themselfes ( not likely, but also very important ;) )
I have done some research on tools available for the parents to use, so they could CONTROL, at least to some degree, what their dear children watch. Government has a whole division called FCC - Federal Communications Commision that imposes new laws, and provides TOOLS for parents to use. However, all too many mommies and daddies are too lazy to figure out the menu options and set a password to the R rated movies and such. Fortunately, government attempts to take-over the ignorant parents and block what their children watch for them. Creation of tools such as V-chips, parental control codes, and required ratings on movies were attempts to crush the spawn of negative information for the children. Unfortunately, most parents in America are either ignorant of the tools at their disposal or too busy or lazy to use them. Parents don’t often realize the negative impact of the media feeding their youngsters such information as foul language, sexually explicit materials, and substance abuse. Although government agencies such as FCC attempt to minimize indecent programming with laws like the prohibition of airing indecent programming between 6 A.M. and 10 P.M., the cracks occur. FCC regulates only sex and bad language! What happens to other explicit material such as violence and substance abuse?
After all, 86 percent of people surveyed, said that parents are responsible for screening their kids from foul information. So in any case, its parents who have to decide what is acceptable for their child and what is not. They are held responsible for observing what their kids watch. Electronic devices should not be the primary barricade — good parental observation is.
Cheers Bloggers!

Howdy all,
Like everyone else I had to go and find a blog then write a response….
After 20 min of searching, I came up with this. It is short, but to the point!
Since my subject is on the media, I figure that the Video Games are a major part of the “television time” that our precious children are absorbing in such hugantic quantities. ( referencing the previous post )
The “wake up calls” that are listed in the blog are only a tinsy part of ” the icebergh”.
Check THIS out, the above are just words, here are a few images. ( a video )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwggENtuG-o…. this one is 15!!!!
or that one…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8D4KSZ2w2g this one is 18!!!
Grand Theft Auto is not the only one to blame. Games such as Crazy Taxi or The Driver also consist of getting away from cops and braking every road rule there is in the book.
Teenagers have a very sensitive brain that absorbs information ( especially negative one ) like a sponge. If you mix that with the tons of hormones and school stress, you get one vulnurable mind. If the cops get you in GTA, you can hit the LOAD button and try again.
Real Life doesnt work that way.( be nice if it would :))
” The American Psychological Association” warns that violent video games can increase aggression. And ‘violent games’ are the only ones that the teens like these days! No one wants to guide the Care-Bear pack through the forrest of candies anymore
The bloodier the game is, the more cop action and sexual innuendo it has, the higher its rating ( and ultimately sales ) will be.
Gladly, the Government is realizing the issue at hand and is taking action. My boyfriend is 26 years old, and when he was purchasing a video game “Stalker”, he was asked to show indentification!! Although he got offended, and I still cant stop laughing, I was pleased. the game has a lot of violence in it, and Best Buy is doing its job. ( by the way, the game was 16+…..)
that is it Boys and Girls… Thanx for reading ( I know you have to….;) )
comment away!!!!!

Our Kids are getting in, bad!
Filed Under Uncategorized | 7 Comments
Hello All,
I decided to narrow my subject down to the impact the media ( mostly television ) has on the behavior of our children ( not our, but NEXT generation ) *ps. our generation is so spoiled, its too late to do anything about us
:)
So here goes,
Is it acceptable to have Superman say “damn” on national television? Or have woman’s breast gracing the front of an Abercrombie and Fitch bag?( That one I actually saw myself, working at the mall, you see a LOT of horrible things, this being one of them ) The answer is no, it is completely exceptionable! In fact, it is vile, crude, and just plan wrong. The adolescents of today should not be getting such messages from the media.
I came across an interesting fact that between the ages of eight and ten, American children are exposed on average to almost eight hours of media each day, more then 40% through television. The media is projecting its characters drinking, using abusive language and demonstrating offensive sexual behavior, which impacts young viewers in a very unhealthy manner. We see dozens of shows where young adults are shown consuming alcohol! That is unacceptable for national television!
Have you ever stopped for a moment and listen to what they are saying? The slang, the ‘cussing’, and the blur are being absorbed by the teenager daily! The worst predicament of all is the explicit sexual content. Adolescents see men treating females as “sex-toys”, disrespecting them, and abusing their persona.
Consequently, it seems natural to question whether the values and behaviors presented in public entertainment media are having an unhealthy impact on the children who consume them in such vast quantities. Is this the kind of generation America wants to bring up?

Yes, I have something to say!

Hello all, please pardon the dust, its my first blog
Why This? Why pick on the Media?
That big black box in almost every room of your house is the most popular way to “log in” to the world. Want to know how hot it will be today? Flick that little black gadget ( most of us call it a remote control ) on, and BOOM - there it is. Want to see how the Obama/McCain compaign is rolling along, click another button and BOOM - you see the well-known caditates digging up dirt on each other. Sounds fun? It is.
However, there is a catch… always…. a catch.
First of all, how do you know it is the truth? If CNN announces that Russia attacked Georgia, how do you know it is the truth? Have you been there? How can you trust that beutiful lady that announces the headline news? How does SHE know? Why should you trust a person you dont even know? Do you?
A couple of questions that most people are too lazy to ask, or too ignorant to asnwer.
Second thing are those lovely “bathroom” or “get-more-popcorn” brakes, commonly known as commercials.
Tanqueray, Snickers, Coca-Cola, Corona, Always, Tampax…. a never ending list if product names the sellers are shoving (quite literally) down our throats. Do they advertise anything healthy? Like Green Lettuce? Hardly. Some even went as far as inserting psychological hypnosis into the commercials to have us buy it. ( But that is a whole different topic).
So there is Television for you… Fun? Definately….
Comes with a catch? Always…..
Just like they say, Free Cheese is Only Inside a Mouse Trap.
